Get Ahead Scholarship Winner - Alani Mason-Calloway

It gets harder and harder each year to pick a scholarship recipient from the over five hundred applications that we received this year. The scholarship committee had their work cut out for them, but they finally agreed on the 2019 Get Ahead Scholarship recipient – Alani Mason-Calloway, a sophomore at Wheaton College.

Alani Mason-Calloway, originally from Waldorf, Maryland is pursuing her degree in Clinical Psychology and is interested in becoming a Pediatric Therapist. Alani has always had a knack for working with youth and intends to focus her psychology career on youth with developmental, learning, and behavioral disorders. Alani is also a musical theatre performer and intends to bring her love of musical theatre and psychology together by starting a theatre company for people with disabilities.

As a Girl Scout Gold Awardee, Alani taught musical theatre to at-risk girls empowering them to creatively express themselves and to share their voices. “The stories we tell impact the world. Stories connect people not only through shared experiences, but through platforms to share experiences that the world needs to hear about. Every person’s story is a thread in the weaving of our collective humanity. I want more stories told, more stories heard, and more stories resonating in the hearts of people worldwide. I live for a better world for at-risk populations, and greater inclusion for people with disabilities (People with Disabilities) and the stories we tell through characters and scenes. If my life leaves the world friendlier and more receptive to the voices of PWD, I will have weaved a story that I lived and believed” says Alani.

Congratulations Alani, you are the recipient of the 5th "Get Ahead Scholarship" presented by

For everyone else, stay tuned and visit often as we will soon announce our scholarship offering for next school year.
