Why San Diego Should Be Your Next Vacation Destination

Preview

We are fast approaching that time of year where families everywhere begin to plan weekends away and extensive vacations. Destination spots like the Bahamas and trips abroad are among the more coveted areas to visit, but the best destination for your next trip is closer than you think. San Diego is among the most spectacular tourist cities in the United States and if you do not believe me, here are a few reasons why San Diego should be on your next trip list.

The Night Life Reigns Supreme

One of the best ways to enjoy a weekend away or a full week in a new city is to embrace the night life. Some cities have a few bars and restaurants to enjoy, but in San Diego, the night life reigns supreme. Naturally, San Diego has evolved throughout the years to include various districts devoted to various attributes of the city. For nightlife in San Diego, the Gaslamp Quarter is the place to see and be seen.

This 16 block section of town houses approximately 50 bars and over 180 restaurants. Once you are filled with food and drink, venture into one of 10 nightclubs. Each night spot is themed differently and if you want to really take in the San Diego skyline, the rooftop of the Manchester Grand Hyatt is perfect.

Historic Hauntings for Those who Dare

Whether you are a believer in the paranormal or not, a good ghost story is hard to turn down. Many people will take ghost tour trips and seek out haunted areas on their journey. If you want to feel a little unnerved or have the chance to see a specter or two visit San Diego’s own Whaley House. This house was originally constructed in 1857 and throughout its illustrious history it has been home to a few spirits that refuse to relent and move on to the next realm.

The Whaley House was regarded as one of California’s finest homes when it was originally built and was even the city’s regional polling place at one time. Today, the Whaley hours is known as one of the most haunted places in the nation, so a visit here, will certainly make your hair stand on end and provide a few goose bumps filled moments.

Food at its Best with Over the top Seafood

California is known for amazing restaurants and a thriving food scene, but in San Diego, food is taken to the ultimate level. The fact that San Diego is perched conveniently on the Pacific coast makes it a mecca for over the top seafood options and some of the most spectacularly talented chefs can be found in the city. Addison Restaurant, Market Restaurant and Bar, and George’s at the Cove are just a few restaurants to include in your itinerary.

A Walk on the Wild Side

Family fun is found throughout San Diego and if you little ones are looking for a walk on the wild side, this city certainly has what you need. One of the most famous zoos in the world, the San Diego Zoo has been featured in television shows and movies throughout history and this place certainly does not disappoint.

Like many zoos, the San Diego Zoo started out small. Initially, it was merely a series of exotic animal exhibits that were originally a part of the 1915 Panama-California Exposition. The Zoological Society in San Diego worked to bring the exhibits to a more common form modeled after the Bronx Zoo in New York. The following year, in 1916, the San Diego Zoo was officially opened with a handful of exhibits. Today, you can see animals from virtually every region of the world and if that is not enough for some family fun, SeaWorld, and San Diego Zoo Safari Park offers even more opportunity to get up close and personal with marine life and safari animals.

The Weather Never Disappoints in San Diego

California weather is something to be proud of. It rarely rains and the position of the state to the coast ensures mild temperatures throughout the year. San Diego is a land of year round sun and mild temperatures that cannot be beat. Even in the dead of winter, it is possible to enjoy a day at the beach, so no matter when you visit San Diego, you can rest assured the weather will not dampen your ability to have the time of your life.

What About Traffic

When thinking of visiting a California destination, images of endless traffic often comes to mind. Where it is true in places such as LA and other large cities, traffic is a nightmare, you will not find traffic in San Diego to be much of a problem. Through careful planning by the transportation board within the city, streets are arranged to divert traffic more effectively. Additionally, visitors are encouraged to utilize the city’s transit system. Trains and buses throughout the city run on schedule and remain remarkably clean. The city’s investment in its transit system has largely attributed to its ability to ward off traffic concerns and remain as one of the more easier travel destinations in California.

Rich California History

While traveling to various destination, the need to have fun is apparent, but the need to learn is also important. In San Diego, history is around every corner. In 1769, San Diego was a part of a Spanish Settlement, the first in California’s history. Today, visitors can tour Old Town in San Diego to see what it was like for the first settlers. Classic Spanish architecture and stories from long ago will take you back to the beginning of the city’s history and entertain you the whole time.

It is time to ditch far away destinations and embrace a place closer to home. San Diego is one of the more walkable family friendly destinations the nation has to offer with plenty to do around every turn. With a plethora of available vacation rentals and hotels to choose from, you can find a place to rest your weary head with ease. San Diego has a lot going for it and if you have yet to visit this beautiful place, what are you waiting for?
