Get Ahead Scholarship Winner - Caitlyn J. Schnur

We received hundreds of applications for our Fall 2017 "Get Ahead Scholarship" from all over the United States including Puerto Rico. They range in age from 18 to 49 and majoring in everything from medicine to computer science.  With all this talented applicants, the task of selecting a winner was a difficult one, but at the end, there was a clear winner, Caitlyn Jane Schnur, Vermilion High School Graduate and recently enrolled at Ohio University.

The opportunities available to me through Peer Leadership helped me develop more as an individual. The experiences I had were eye opening and the new relationships I made were unbreakable. Peer Leadership thought me how to be a leader and help others in my community" states Caitlyn as one of the extracurricular activities that had been meaningful to her.

Her leadership shines through in the range of opportunities afforded her from mentoring with the youth in Big Brothers and Big Sisters to being involved with the elderly in a local nursing home. Not only did she give back but it taught her to be a leader in so many ways and helped her in developing a variety of skills from communication to confidence that will serve her greatly in lifes.

Caitlyn was not only involved in her community, she excelled in sports such as basketball, volleyball and track an field all while maintaining a high GPA and being a member of the National Honor Society.
