EZstorit Self-Storage Employee Scholarship Winners for 2021-2022

Preview

Since 2016, we have been fortunate to be able to award EZstorit Get Ahead Scholarships to six students. And just last year we awarded our first ever EZstorit Self-Storage Employee Scholarship. Each year, our scholarship committee reviews hundreds of scholarship applications. This year was no exception; we received over 1000 Get Ahead Scholarship applicants and well over 400 EZstorit Self-Storage Employee Scholarship applicants throughout the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada. With so many applicants, it was difficult to choose just one, therefore we decided to choose two candidates for each of our scholarships including our EZstorit Self-Storage Employee Scholarship.

The EZstorit Self-Storage Employee scholarship is open not only to current self-storage employees but also their immediate family members as well. This year’s scholarship recipients consist of a self-storage employee and a self-storage employee’s family member. We are proud and honored to award MiKayla McGuire and Jonathan Herberger this year’s EZstorit Self Storage Employee Scholarships. Each will receive a check in the amount of $500 to put towards their educational expenses.

MiKayla McGuire

MiKayla McGuire, a sophomore at Western Illinois University currently works at U-Store-It in Macomb, Illinois. Mikayla is majoring in accounting and plans to become a licensed CPA. Since she started working at U-Store-It as an Accounting Specialist earlier this year, she has grown to really love her position and the folks she works with. Daily, Mikayla is able to put into action the concepts she learns from her classes to use in her work.

MiKayla is a member of the WIU’s National Society of Collegiate Scholars chapter and holds the position of volunteer treasurer. Mikayla has made the Dean’s List for the semesters; Summer 2020, Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 and will work to continue that trend for Fall of 2021. When not at work at U-Store-It and studying, MiKayla enjoys relaxing in the great outdoors by kayaking and hiking. Her love of marine environments stems from participation of two research trips where she witnessed the damage to marine ecosystems from the aftermath of an oil spill.

No doubt, MiKayla’s work experience and her volunteer position as treasurer will further reinforce her accounting skills on her way to becoming a Certified Public Accountant. We are proud to be a part of MiKayla’s educational journey and wish her all the best!

Jonathan Herberger

Jonathan Herberger is the son of Yvette from Anchor Self-Storage in Clover, South Carolina and he is our 2nd EZstorit Self-Storage Scholarship recipient. Jonathan is currently a senior at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina where he plans on graduating in December. He is pursuing a degree in Business Management and has made the Dean’s list several times. Jonathan is also a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society.

In high school, Jonathan played football and other team sports. While not studying, you will find Jonathan working out and conditioning or going to the gym. Jonathan says he has always loved working out and one day, it is his goal to either manage a gym or own one of his own. The skills he learns from his classes along with his business degree will be an asset in the management of a gym or any other business enterprise he chooses.

Jonathan strives to always put his best possible self forward each day. His determination along with a strong work ethic will assist Jonathan to not only achieve his goals but exceed them. We wish Jonathan much success and proud to be a small part of his academic journey.

It is our privilege and honor to award each of these outstanding students; one a self-storage employee and the other a self-storage employee family member with this year’s EZstorit Self-Storage Scholarships. Both MiKayla and Jonathan will receive a check in the amount of $500 for them to use towards their educational expenses. We wish MiKayla and Jonathan much luck and success this year and in the years to come.

We will once again be offering the EZstorit Self-Storage Employee Scholarship for the 2022-2023 school year. Stay tuned to our website for further announcements on both our annual scholarships, the EZstorit Get Ahead Scholarship and the EZstorit Self-Storage Employee Scholarship. Both of these scholarships are open to students in the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada.
