09-27-2026?? CONSUMER WARNING READ THIS BEFORE RENTING FROM EXTRA SPACE STORAGE Dont make your decision based on the introductory price. Find out what theyll charge you after it ends. I rented from Extra Space Storage at an introductory rate of $103/month. When the introductory period ended, they wanted to increase my rent to $187/month approximately an 82% increase. Yes, they say they have the contractual right to raise the rent. Thats not the point. The point is whether its ethical to attract customers with an introductory price, get their belongings moved into the facility, and then impose a dramatic increase when moving everything again is a major inconvenience. This was the second time I experienced this with Extra Space Storage. And apparently, Im far from alone. I found other customers publicly reporting similarly extreme increases, including: Arizona: $130/month ? $210.12 after only 90 days. Another customer reported approximately $80 ? $250 in nine months. Another reported $89 ? $167 after only three months. Another reported $67 ? $162 in nine monthsan increase of roughly 140%. These are individual customer reports, but the similarity is hard to ignore. New York City also sued Extra Space Storage over alleged deceptive pricing practices and steep rent increases. In July 2026, Extra Space agreed to a $1.7 million settlement with New York City involving those practices. To be fair, the local employees and the facility were NOT the problem. The employees I dealt with were helpful, and the facility itself was clean and satisfactory. The problem was the pricing. Thats where Extra Space Storage completely lost me. I will never rent from Extra Space Storage again. Before signing anything, ask exactly what happens when the introductory rate expires. Ask how much and how often they can raise your rentand get it in writing. An increase from $103 to $187 isnt what I consider a legitimate price adjustment. It feels like a bait-and-switch business model in everything but name. Im posting this so consumers can make an informed decision before putting their belongingsand themselvesinto this pricing trap. Youve been warned.
