6 Essential Baby Gear Storage and Organization Tips

Preview

Getting prepared for your little one's arrival can be strenuous, if not downright exhausting. New mommies and daddies have enough to worry about, especially once the baby comes. You don't want to wait for your bundle of joy to arrive to start planning how to organize all of the baby items you've accumulated from family, friends and your own shopping frenzies. If you have limited space to put everything or simply want to be more organized, the following tips should be helpful to you.

1. Maximize Closet Space with Hanging Organizers
You only have but so much space in your nursery, so why not maximize it using hanging organizers? This is a great way to keep everything neatly tucked away and out of sight. Surely, you have plenty of toys, clothes, shoes, onesies and so on. You can hang these on the same rod you hang clothes on. Another option is to install shelves on the walls, if space allows. You can place books, bins and other items that don't fit in the hanging organizers.

2. Use Attractive Stackable Containers
There will be baby items that just won't fit into hanging organizers and shelves. Instead, you can use storage bins that are colorful, attractive and easy to stack to help space. Make sure to organize these so that you can quickly find whatever you need. You should also label the containers so you don't have to rummage through each of them to find the items you need.

3. Buy Storage-Friendly Furniture
Manufacturers are paying attention to their customers' needs and are designing baby furniture that come with plenty of storage. This includes cribs with lots of drawers and shelves, and even changing tables have these same features, allowing you more areas to store diapers, underclothes and wipes. You should also check out storage benches that can be used to tuck away bulkier items like sweaters and comforters.

4. Don't Wait for Mess to Pile Up
Taking care of an infant or toddler can be hectic enough without worrying about the accumulation of baby clothes, toys and so on. You can keep your stress levels down by thinking ahead. Rather than waiting for a big mess to begin cleaning, you should be more proactive about eliminating clutter.

One way to do this is to organize your baby's clothes into three piles - what she can fit now, what she will grow into and what she no longer fits or wears. Make sure to add to the outgrown pile as needed and get rid of those before they pile up. You can also do the same with toys. Your baby will continue to outgrow the toys you've bought, so no use in holding on to them for longer than you have to.

5. Consider Vertical Storage
There's only but so much space on the floor - so consider putting your walls to use. Install shelving systems, bookcases, shoe holders and cubbies on the walls, behind doors and above doorways. You can make use of all your wall space, so you can keep your floors free of clutter. You can cover the shelves with fabric that matches the nursery, so it hides the mess.

6. Go with Smaller Baby Gear
This is a great tip for everything you buy your baby. Your strollers can take up a lot of space, so why not go with one that can fold up umbrella style? Or buy a crib that is tiny, but expands as your infant grows. Your newborn is a tiny person and doesn't need the over-sized gear that you'll commonly find on the market.

Bassinets, high chairs and everything else you buy can be bought in a miniature size. This also helps make it easier to store baby gear away when they're not in use. Or when you're traveling, it's quicker and easier to pack into your trunk.

Clutter is a common problem for new moms and dads because they are given lots of gifts and tend to over-buy. They end up with double the clothes, toys and baby bottles, making it difficult to find a place for everything. So if you're expecting a baby or already have a little one, you need to find ways to store items before it becomes a huge unorganized mess. Hopefully, these tips will help you to do just that.
